Step back into Britain’s industrial heartland

Experience a truly unique day out at one of Britain’s most acclaimed heritage attractions, where the industrial past of the Black Country comes vividly to life before your eyes. This isn’t just a museum – it’s a living, breathing recreation of a bygone era where you can step back in time and experience life as it was during the height of Britain’s industrial revolution.

The museum has painstakingly collected historic buildings from across the Black Country region, carefully relocating and reconstructing them on this remarkable 26-acre site. Each building has been brought back to life with meticulous attention to detail, creating an authentic Victorian and Edwardian townscape complete with cobbled streets, working shops, and period houses.

What makes this experience truly special is the enthusiastic team of costumed interpreters and skilled craftspeople who bring the past to life with remarkable authenticity. These talented performers don’t just demonstrate historical skills – they embody the characters of the past, complete with the warmth, wit, and distinctive sense of humour that the Black Country is famous for. Chat with the shopkeepers, watch the blacksmith at his forge, visit the working pub, and see traditional crafts being practiced just as they were over a century ago.

Explore the Victorian fairground, take a ride on the vintage trolleybus, or descend into the reconstructed coal mine to understand the harsh realities of industrial life. The museum’s collection includes everything from humble workers’ cottages to grand industrial buildings, each telling its own story of how ordinary people lived, worked, and found joy during this transformative period in British history.

This immersive experience offers something for everyone – fascinating social history, impressive industrial heritage, and plenty of opportunities for conversation with the knowledgeable and entertaining historical characters who make the Black Country’s past feel remarkably present.

What awaits you: Living history with costumed interpreters • Authentic Victorian and Edwardian buildings • Working craftspeople and traditional skills • Underground coal mine experience • Vintage transport rides • Famous Black Country warmth and humour
